The College of Business Management is accredited by AACSB International and committed to continuous quality improvement for all our programs. The Bachelor degree programs in business are supported by a broad general education program. Students are prepared to become leaders in the business world and hold key management positions in business and industry. Each student is counseled and evaluated in the admissions process as to the most appropriate degree program based upon career objectives, plans for future education, and previously earned college credits if applicable.

Degree Requirements Overview
All degree programs offered through the College of Business Management require the completion of a minimum of 124 semester hours, which include 30 semester hours of upper division college work. All degree programs offered through theCollege of Business Management have the following requirements:

  • Minimum of 124 semester credits with a maximum of 64 semester credits transferred from two-year institutions upon matriculation
  • At least 24 hours of business coursework must be completed at SUNY Poly
  • Minimum of 30 credits completed at SUNY Poly
  • Distribution and general education requirements as outlined in the degree requirements
  • Minimum of C (2.00) in all business core courses taken at SUNY Poly, requirements and electives
  • All business transfer courses must have a grade of “C” or better to apply to the degree program

B.S. in Business Administration — 124 total credits

The program is designed primarily for the student who has either an Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree, an Associate in Science (A.S.) degree or entering freshmen who meet the college’s admissions criteria. It requires the same core of business courses as the B.B.A. program. In general, a student in the B.S. program has a broader education in content, whereas the B.B.A. student specializes. One is better than the other only in the context of the student’s individual personal and career objectives.

The B.S. degree will be granted to those students who satisfactorily complete at least 124 semester hours of college-level work (including lower division study) distributed as follows:

Students shall satisfy the requirements listed below.

I. SUNY General Education Requirements (30 credit minimum)

All SUNY students must satisfy the following requirements.

No fewer than 30 credits must be attained from the SUNY approved General Education Course List with the following provisions:

  • Mathematics (MAT 112 or equivalent recommended by program)
  • Basic Communication (ENG 101 or equivalent)

At least five (5) out of the following eight (8) SUNY General Education categories:

  • Natural Science
  • Social Science
  • American History
  • Western Civilization
  • Other World Civilization
  • Humanities
  • The Arts
  • Foreign Language

NOTE: You may take more than one course in a given category to complete this 30 credit hour requirement, but you must also satisfy the appropriate number of categories.

II. Liberal Arts/Sciences Requirements (34 credit minimum) 

The New York State Education Department (SED) requires a student earning a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree to attain no fewer than 60 credits of combined SUNY General Education and Liberal Arts/Sciences courses. There may be overlap between courses meeting both the SUNY General Education Requirements and Liberal Arts/Sciences Requirements, but a student may receive course credits only once even if multiple requirements are satisfied by a single course.  The total number of combined credit hours must be no fewer than  64 credits.

SUNY Poly degree requirements:

  • Natural Sciences—one course which may be a General Education Natural Science course
  • Upper-Division Writing Course (COM 307)

Specific requirements BS in Business Administration majors:

  • MAT 112 Elements of Calculus
  • Behavioral Science (PSY, SOC)
  • Microeconomics (ECO 110 or equivalent) (Satisfies Social Science General Education Requirement)

B.B.A. in Business Administration—124 total credits

This degree is similar to the traditional business degree offered by colleges and universities nationwide. It is specifically geared to those students who may have focused on business courses at their two-year colleges and want to continue in that direction. This program provides a background in business and management which bridges the gap between specialization and generalization. It gives both freshmen and transfer students the opportunity for concentrated study in one of the basic areas of business as well as a broad-based background to grow with during an extended career.

Students shall satisfy the requirements listed below.
