For Stephanie Jones ’19 G ‘20, a Whitesboro native, choosing SUNY Poly was more than just a decision to stay local — it was a decision to embrace community. “SUNY Poly felt like a second family,” she recalls. “The sense of belonging, the passion of the professors, and the close-knit environment really made it home.”
Staff and faculty like Melissa Prest and Benjamin Osenbach made a lasting impact, guiding Stephanie through her academic journey and fueling her aspirations.
Stephanie’s love for business and technology began early, inspired by her knack for entrepreneurship, such as when she had a lemonade stand in her youth. At SUNY Poly, she found the perfect blend of the two, earning an undergraduate degree in Business Administration, followed by a Master’s Degree in Technology Management.
During her time at Poly, Stephanie developed a passion for innovation and problem-solving that would shape her career. Upon graduation, her determination was evident—packing her car and heading to California, ready to take on the tech industry.
“I didn’t have a job lined up, but I knew I wanted to work in tech,” Stephanie notes. “I wasn’t going to settle.”
Her persistence paid off. Stephanie began her career in tech sales, focusing on cybersecurity and networking solutions, before joining Lenovo. Now a Corporate Client Manager at the global tech giant, she manages enterprise accounts across Southern California. At Lenovo, Stephanie thrives on helping clients achieve their IT goals while navigating cutting-edge advancements in AI. Stephanie thrives on helping clients achieve their IT goals by leveraging cutting-edge advancements in AI and innovation through Lenovo’s comprehensive technology portfolio ranging from laptops, smart devices, servers, storage solutions, and services, delivering a full end-to-end solutions that empower businesses to thrive in today’s fast-paced digital world.
“I’m passionate about learning and being on the forefront of technology,” Stephanie explains. “Lenovo’s focus on innovation aligns perfectly with my goals.”
Despite her West Coast success, Stephanie hasn’t forgotten her roots. She’s deeply involved in her San Diego community, volunteering at a dog rescue and mentoring first-generation STEM students. These efforts echo the values instilled during her time at SUNY Poly. “Giving back is part of who I am,” Stephanie notes, “and it’s something I learned from my time on campus.”
When she’s not working, Stephanie embraces the California lifestyle — surfing, training in jiu-jitsu, and exploring her vibrant surroundings. Yet, she fondly reminisces about her favorite Utica staples: chicken riggies, tomato pie, and greens. “Utica food is unmatched. Every time I’m home, I make it my mission to eat all the classics!”
Stephanie’s advice for current students is simple: “Don’t give up. Growth happens outside your comfort zone. Build your network and seek out mentors — they’ve been invaluable in my journey.”
