Why did you choose SUNY Poly?
I transferred from SUNY Broome and graduated early in December 2022 with my Associate’s degree in Business Administration. I started off there because I was not really sure what I wanted to study in college, but I automatically fell in love with the business programs. I was very fortunate to know a few friends who went to SUNY Poly right from the start as first-year students, and they kept pushing me to apply here and eventually become a student. While on the fence, I visited campus a few times and immediately enjoyed it. As soon as I got my acceptance for Spring 2023, I was ready to put down my deposit in no time! I also liked how the college is equipped with high-quality research faculty and professors, as well as the size of the campus itself.
Why did you choose your major?
I have always been interested in the field of Business. My Pops was a huge leader of business as a manager and supervisor at Amphenol and Ametek in Endicott, NY. Everyone who has ever met him enjoyed working with him and said that he was the best boss they have ever had, so I was inspired to walk in his footsteps and do the same. I was also fortunate to network and meet multiple talented small business owners and entrepreneurs while growing up in Binghamton and attending SUNY Broome and it was a reminder to me that I can do the same. Business Administration is a wonderful career that anyone can go into, and you can do so many things with it. I enjoy is the ability to network and try different aspects such as Marketing, Sales, Human Resources, Accounting, Entrepreneurship, and so much more.
How would you describe your relationship with your professors?
I have very strong relationships with my professors, even in an online class setting. The wonderful thing about our awesome research-faculty and professors is that they want to help you and they want to see you succeed.
Is there an impactful academic experience during your time at SUNY Poly that stands out to you?
Your professors are not just there to teach you and give you assignments, they want to get to know you personally and network with you on a personal level. Academically, I think those professors are the best ones to have in academia.
Have you completed an internship or conducted student research? If so, please tell us about it.
I was a marketing intern during my sophomore year at Modern Marketing & Commerce (MMC) in the Spring 2022 semester. I had lots of hands-on experience in marketing, advertising, and promoting events as well as learning how to construct an event through event planning. All of this had come to serve me well as this was all a big factor in hosting the Launchpad Greater Binghamton Scholastic Challenge, where high school students from the Southern Tier region would create and develop a business and products to present to a panel of judges from the Binghamton area who were knowledgeable in Business and Entrepreneurship. I enjoyed having this experience so much, because I was able to work with a great team of individuals, meet local entrepreneurs and business leaders, as well as take all skills learned with me to other aspects of my growing business career.
What has been your favorite class at SUNY Poly so far?
My favorite class so far has been Business Communications (COM 307) with Professor Kayla Blatchley. Not only is she a great lecturer, she also helps me make my writing skills stronger and develop multiple skills to become a better communicator in the world of business.
Best experience at SUNY Poly so far?
The best experience at SUNY Poly is knowing how tight-knit our campus community is. There are multiple ways to get involved on campus and meet new people and even make new friends. I was very fortunate to attend orientation day, meet so many awesome people, and even create a couple of great friend groups from my friends who have already attended before me.
