Alexander Golovchik ’26: Nursing

Alexander Golovchik found his passion in the intensity of critical care, where complex cases, quick decisions, and compassionate communication all converge. As a senior in SUNY Poly’s 1+2+1 nursing program, he has spent the past four years building the knowledge, confidence, and clinical skill required to be exactly that.

Alexander’s academic foundation began with the core sciences such as anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and pathophysiology, classes that helped him understand the “why” behind every symptom, medication, and intervention. But it was his associate-level clinical rotations at the St. Elizabeth College of Nursing that transformed theory into practice. There, he learned to assess patients with intention, administer medications safely, and design care plans that balanced clinical priorities with human needs. Each rotation sharpened his critical thinking and strengthened his ability to communicate compassionately in demanding situations.

Those early experiences paved the way for his transition into one of healthcare’s most challenging environments: the intensive care unit. Now working as a registered nurse in the ICU, Alexander draws daily on the foundation his program provided. The 1+2+1 pathway not only prepared him academically, but it also gave him early, confidence-building exposure to patient care that made stepping into high-acuity nursing feel both natural and meaningful.

As he prepares to complete his Bachelor of Nursing this spring, Alexander looks forward to continuing his career in critical care and hopes to pursue further education after several years of ICU practice. He carries with him the readiness, resilience, and purpose shaped throughout his time at SUNY Poly.
