Advanced Technology (MS)

The M.S. in Advanced Technology is a fully online, career-focused graduate program designed for working professionals who want to expand their expertise and transition into high-growth technology fields such as semiconductor engineering, advanced manufacturing, and robotics.

This flexible program emphasizes applied, real-world learning through demonstrations, case studies, and project-based activities. Students explore cutting-edge technologies and industry practices in a structured, accessible format, making it ideal for those looking to build new technical competencies without requiring extensive prior specialization.

Courses are delivered entirely online, allowing students to balance professional, academic, and personal commitments while advancing their careers. Faculty bring a combination of industry experience and research expertise, guiding students through practical applications and emerging trends shaping modern technology sectors.

Who Should Apply

Students admitted to the program typically hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. While a background in engineering, engineering technology, computer science, natural sciences, or a related STEM field is preferred, it is not required. Applicants from diverse academic and professional backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

The program is designed to support both working professionals and full-time students. With courses delivered fully online—including asynchronous and select synchronous components—students can balance academic study with professional and personal commitments. Transfer credit for post-baccalaureate coursework or certificates may be awarded on a case-by-case basis.

Program Structure

The program requires a minimum of 33 credits, consisting of:

  • 9 credits of required coursework
  • 12 credits in a selected track
  • 12 credits of general electives

Students may also choose a 6-credit thesis sequence (MST 690 and MST 691) as a culminating experience. The thesis option allows for independent research, applied analysis, or project-based work aligned with the student’s area of specialization.

Each track provides specialized knowledge and skills while maintaining flexibility for interdisciplinary study.

  • TIM 500: Project Management
  • TIM 530: Managing New Product Design and Development

Semiconductor Track:

  • MST 674: Semiconductor Device and Fabrication
  • MST 675: Semiconductor Characterization
  • MST 690: Thesis I
  • MST 691: Thesis II

Advanced Manufacturing Track:

  • MST 692: Materials Selection in Design
  • MST 694: Advanced Manufacturing with Metals: Fundamentals and Applications
  • MST 690: Thesis I
  • MST 691: Thesis II

Robotics Track:

  • MST 650: Industrial Robotics
  • MST 651: Autonomous Robots
  • MST 690: Thesis I
  • MST 691: Thesis II

General Electives (12 credits)

Students complete 12 credits of general electives. Any 500- or 600-level graduate course may be used to satisfy this requirement, subject to advisor approval.
