SUNY Poly may award an undergraduate degree posthumously in recognition of a student’s work and satisfactory progress towards degree at the time of death.

A family member, survivor, or legal representative of the student must request the award of a posthumous degree, or a campus representative may initiate the request in which case the campus must obtain consent from a family member, survivor, or legal representative. The request for consideration shall be reviewed by the faculty of the relevant program according to their bylaws or a duly constituted committee, and/or department who will convey by writing its recommendation to the Provost.

• To be considered for a posthumous undergraduate degree the student must have met the minimum credit-hour residency requirements of both the Institution and the academic program in which the student was matriculated,
• The student must have made satisfactory progress towards earning the degree, and be in good academic standing and conduct standing at the time of their passing, with consideration given to extenuating circumstances related to their passing that may have impacted their standing
• The campus must verify the student has passed away.
• The diploma should be issued in the standard format.
• The official transcript will note that the degree is posthumous.
