As part of SUNY Poly’s commitment to our global community and to providing exciting, experiential educational opportunities, SUNY Poly is proud to have been selected to host the Central New York 2018 Regional FIRST Robotics Competition in the Wildcat Field House on our Utica campus March 2-4.

It is the latest in a years-long commitment by SUNY Poly to provide a home for FIRST (For Inspiration & Recognition of Science & Technology) robotics teams, made up of students from around the world who develop science and engineering skills through engagement in exciting mentor-based robotics programs.

The world-renowned, multi-day FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition) event is expected to draw thousands to the Utica area as teams of students in grades 9 through 12 compete on a special playing field with robots they have designed, built, and programmed. In fact, one team—FRC Team 5030 The Second Mouse—is a regional FRC team consisting of high school students who are hosted right here at SUNY Poly and mentored by past and present SUNY Poly students.

All those within the campus community are invited to visit the Wildcat Field House us at any point during the multi-day event and witness the positive impact that the FIRST Robotics Competition can have on its participants. In addition to the satisfaction from being a part of the competition and learning STEM skills, the program has been proven to lead to better grades in school and increased attendance in college.

Those wishing to volunteering for the as a referee, game announcer, registration table manager, judge assistant, robot inspector, or in any other role (full list here) are encouraged to do so, and would help make this large-scale event the best experience possible for the nearly 2,500 expected attendees.

If you are interested in volunteering for one or more of the days from Friday March 2 through Sunday March 4, complete the registration process here by selecting the Central New York FIRST Regional Event. For more information about volunteering, please email CNYFRC@SUNYIT.edu.
