Has the deadline to drop classes for the spring 2020 semester been extended?

Yes – students now have until May 1, 2020 to drop a class by completing an add/drop form. Students dropping a class at this point in the semester will receive a “W” grade. W grades do not have an impact on a student’s GPA.

However, dropping a class may impact financial aid, both in the current semester and in future semesters. Students are strongly advised to consult the financial aid office to understand the impact of a W grade on financial aid for this and future semesters.

Dropping a class at this point in the semester does not reduce a student’s tuition bill. Some students may incur additional financial obligation as a result of dropping a class, especially if their total credits for the semester drop below 12.

We hope that extending the deadline for dropping a class with a “W” grade will allow students to remain in their current classes for a few more weeks while they assess the impact of the transition to distance learning and other factors associated with the COVID-19 pandemic on their academic lives.
