SUNY Poly Instructional Methods of Teaching

SUNY Poly offers classes in different teaching modalities to assist students in accessing classes that fit their schedules. SUNY Poly teaches in online, in-person and hybrid formats. Options vary by program, semester, and by course.

SUNY Poly uses D2L Brightspace to host online and hybrid courses. Students will need their SITNet ID to login and access online course content.

Courses are subject to merging similar or cross-listed sections into a combined course shell online where you may be interacting with students in a different course section than you are enrolled in.

Online courses: Course, textbook information and all class participation is online. Two types of online courses are available: 100% asynchronous, and courses with synchronous meetings. Both types have the notation “Online Course”. Asynchronous courses have a section code of 35W to 38W.

Hybrid courses: Hybrid courses meet in-person and online. The course professor determines the in-person attendance and online participation requirements. Hybrid courses have a section number (2 numbers) followed by the letter H (e.g. 01H).

Hyflex courses: Hyflex courses give students the option to choose to attend in-person, online synchronously, or online asynchronously. Students do not need to commit to one option, they have the flexibility to choose how to participate each day. Hyflex courses have a section number ending in F (e.g. 01F). **Note: F-1 International Students must participate in Hyflex courses in-person and may NOT attend these courses virtually. Failure to attend in person may result in SEVIS termination and loss of legal immigration status in the U.S.
