{"id":865,"date":"2013-03-05T13:59:01","date_gmt":"2013-03-05T18:59:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sunyit.edu\/apps\/catalog\/undergrad\/courses\/science-technology-and-society\/"},"modified":"2020-05-01T12:46:25","modified_gmt":"2020-05-01T16:46:25","slug":"science-technology-society","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/webapp.sunypoly.edu\/undergrad-catalog-2020-2021\/courses\/science-technology-society\/","title":{"rendered":"Science, Technology and Society"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>STS 200 Introduction to Science, Technology, and Society (4)<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Science and technology are integral parts of our society and our lives today.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>They influence the way we live and work and affect the way we understand ourselves and the world around us.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Yet what, exactly, are science and technology?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>How do scientists develop new knowledge, and how do engineers and technologists develop new technologies?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>How do technologies affect our lives and our society?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>This course examines those issues by exploring the social dimensions of science and technology and by looking at the interactions and interrelationships among science, technology, and society.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We will explore: 1.) the practice of science and technology to understand how scientific and technological work is conducted as a creative and human enterprise; 2.) how science and technology are shaped by different social and economic forces; and 3.) the impacts of science and technology on society. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>STS 490 Topics in Science, Technology and Society (Variable 1-4)<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">An in-depth examination of particular topics in science, technology and society.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Topics may include: Science, Technology, and Identity;
