Students may receive credit in future semesters for a different topic. Prerequisites: SOC 100 or SOC 110 and PSY 100.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>CBH 340 Behavioral Health Strategies (4)<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Examines strategies useful in promoting optimal health. Students have the opportunity to learn about, experience, and practice several wellness\/healing modalities, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, biofeedback, yoga\/mediation, and sleep\/nutrition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>CBH 375 Biopsychosocial Context of Health and Wellbeing (4)<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Employs a biopsychosocial model in understanding health and well-being. Examines topics such as health models, mind-body connections, stress\/illness connection, stigma, environmental links to health, health policy, and social disparities\/inequalities in health and well-being. Prerequisites: STA 100 and PSY 100 and SOC 100.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>CBH 377 Multi Disciplinary Approach to the Understanding of Disabilities (4)<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Multiple disciplines (engineering, engineering technology, biology and other hard sciences, social sciences and humanities) can provide diverse perspectives on the nature of disabilities, which are necessary to identify problems and develop creative solutions that work with persons with disabilities to achieve their potential and enjoy a positive quality of life. Team members from different disciplines will work together to understand the bio-psycho-ecological nature of disabilities and explore team dynamics as a necessary step to devising solutions. This course will be delivers through a combination of reading and multimedia materials, structured group discussions and activities, self-reflection papers, and group presentation projects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>CBH 381 Evolution, Biology, and Health (4)<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Human health and disease are explored from an evolutionary perspective. Students will gain an understanding of the evolutionary processes that shaped the human body and their impacts on human growth, development, reproduction, and aging. Global health challenges such as infectious disease, allergies, and obesity will be reviewed through an evolutionary lens. Students with an interest in evolution, health, human biology, nanoscale science, or nursing may also find this course useful.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>CBH 440 Fundamentals of Grant Writing (4)<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Provides an overview of the fundamentals of grant writing, including locating funding sources, program design and program evaluation. Prerequisites: SOC 100, SOC 110 or Introductory SOC or ANT course.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>CBH 450 Psychosocial Impact of Technology on Health (4)<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Provides an overview of how technology impacts health and well-being. Includes a service-based learning project and interdisciplinary collaboration, which will vary by semester.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>CBH 490 Selected Topics in Health and Well-Being (4)<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In-depth treatment of a topic in health and well-being. Student may receive credit in future semester for a different topic. Prerequisites: SOC 100 or SOC110 and PSY 100.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>CBH 491 Independent Study in Health and Wellbeing (Variable 1-4)<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Provides a structure for extensive study and\/or directed research (under faculty supervision) on a topic.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Application form must include a description of the project, its duration, educational goals, method for evaluation, and a suggested number of credits.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Prerequisite: matriculated students only; permission of the Instructor.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>CBH 492 Methods of Inquiry in Health and Well-Being (4)<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">First of a two-semester methods\/capstone sequence, students will receive training in both qualitative and quantitative methods, as well as participate in a practicum experience related to health and well-being. Students will draft an individual research proposal to be implemented in the second semester of the sequence (CBH 493). Prerequisites: STA 100, CBH 375.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>CBH 493 Project Seminar in Health and Well-Being (4)<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Second of a two-semester methods\/capstone sequence in Community and Behavioral Health, students will continue with the practicum placement from CBH 492 and will carry out an individual research project in the area of health and well-being. Prerequisite: CBH 492.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>CBH 495 Practicum in Health and Wellbeing (4)<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Integrates academic and practical experience during a semester-long placement in a health\/wellness setting.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Emphasis on developing knowledge, skills, and competence as a professional.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Project requirements will vary, based on the setting.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Prerequisite: minimum of 3.0 GPA and permission of the Instructor.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CBH 290 Special Topics in Health and Well-Being (4) Investigates a topic in health and well-being.
