Topics include: the tax environment, an overview of financial planning and control, working capital management, and forms of long\u2011term financing. Objectives include an analysis of responsibilities and functions performed by financial analysts, whether representing a firm, a financial institution, an investment officer, or financial\/management consultant.\u00a0<em>Prerequisite: ACC 201 or equivalent or permission of instructor.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><b>FIN 332\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fundamentals of Investments (4)<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The investment of capital funds is a complex field and topics studied include: investment and risk, determination of investment policy, types of security investments, sources of investment information, the broker, the stock market, and portfolio management.<\/p>\n<p><b>FIN 341\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Financial Institutions (4)<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Analysis of financial institutions with emphasis on their sources of funds and operating characteristics. Emphasis also is given to the role of commercial banks in the money market and the relationship of the other major financial institutions to the commercial banks.<\/p>\n<p><b>FIN 343\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Personal Finance (4)<\/b><\/p>\n<p>This course provides the informational and decision-making tools needed for planning and implementing a successful personal financial plan.\u00a0 It provides an overview of personal and family financial planning with an emphasis on financial record keeping, planning your spending, tax planning, consumer credit, making buying decisions, purchasing insurance, selecting investments and retirement and estate planning.<\/p>\n<p><b>FIN 378\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Finance for Entrepreneurs (4)<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Focus on financial planning, analysis, and find raising to seed a small business through venture, angel, investment, and commercial capital sources.\u00a0Topics include financial management for entrepreneurs over the life of the business including start-up financing, financial planning for growth, going public, selling off, bankruptcy, and other pertinent financing topics.\u00a0Communication of entrepreneurial funding ideas through written and oral forms will also be discussed.\u00a0<em>Prerequisite: ENT 375<\/em><\/p>\n<p><b>FIN 411\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Financial Management Problems (4)<\/b><\/p>\n<p>An in\u2011depth financial analysis of problems experienced by different firms is pursued using actual cases and outside reading to supplement text data. Studies will cover value of cash flow, capital planning, break\u2011even analysis, inventory control, financial structure, cost of capital, external growth, failure, reorganization, and liquidation. <em>Prerequisite: FIN 302.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><b>FIN 420\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Financial Planning and Control (4)<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Analytical techniques and procedures for dealing with capital structure problems of business. Emphasis will be on capital budgeting techniques and methods of ranking investment alternatives available to business. The student should become familiar with different theories of probabilities to minimize risk in financial planning and control. <em>Prerequisite: FIN 411 or equivalent.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><b>FIN 491\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Independent Study (Variable 1\u20114)<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Extensive study and research on a particular topic of student interest under the supervision of a faculty member.
