This year\u2019s program was coordinated by Dr. Shing Chi Leung and Marye Ianno from SUNY Poly\u2019s College of Arts and Sciences.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2193\" src=\"https:\/\/webapp.sunypoly.edu\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/pierre-1024x768.jpg\" Perspectives<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li><strong>Krish Khatri<\/strong> collaborated with Dr. Catherine Cottrell to analyze stigma. \u201cThere is a goal, but I can use my perspective and creativity in the research process,\u201d Khatri says, noting how much he values the freedom to explore ideas.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li><strong>Marie-Jinoue Plantin<\/strong>, working with Dr. Pallavi Gupta-Bouder, studied the effects of PFAS on seed germination. \u201cIt has been a great experience,\u201d she says. \u201cI didn\u2019t realize how much it would overlap with my Biology major.\u201d<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li><strong>Pierre-Alain Gbalou<\/strong> simulated earthquakes and avalanches using Python programming under the guidance of Dr. Shing Chi Leung, research that could help predict when such events might occur. \u201cI learned new skills and programs like Python, which is extremely relevant to my mechanical engineering major.\u201d<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li><strong>Noa Lolona Haro<\/strong>, paired with Dr. Steve Schneider, co-director of SUNY Poly\u2019s AI Exploration Center, helped build a workbench to integrate AI tools into the daily work of students and faculty. \u201cIt\u2019s been a big learning curve, but that\u2019s what makes it fun,\u201d Haro says. \u201cI\u2019m getting better at coding and discovering things I didn\u2019t know AI could do.\u201d<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li><strong>Ariel Cruz<\/strong> worked with Dr. Mahmoud Badr to investigate smart meters and how they have been manipulated in cases of electronic theft. \u201cIt\u2019s taught me a lot about machine learning,\u201d he says, adding that he enjoyed studying different papers and technologies to learn how to apply them.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Collectively, these experiences reflect SUNY Poly\u2019s commitment to fostering hands-on learning that empowers students to push boundaries, solve real-world
