{"id":1786,"date":"2023-11-09T14:27:36","date_gmt":"2023-11-09T19:27:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webapp.sunypoly.edu\/stories\/?p=1786"},"modified":"2025-11-04T10:38:12","modified_gmt":"2025-11-04T15:38:12","slug":"stephanie-wurz-14-civil-engineering-technology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp.sunypoly.edu\/stories\/stephanie-wurz-14-civil-engineering-technology\/","title":{"rendered":"<strong>Stephanie Wurz \u201914: Civil Engineering Technology<\/strong>"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p>If you take a drive around Utica and spot one of the city\u2019s many revitalization efforts, there\u2019s a good chance Utica native Stephanie Wurz \u201914 had a hand in making it come to fruition.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Wurz is currently a Senior Engineer for the City of Utica, having previously been a junior and assistant engineer.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>She earned her B.A. in Civil Engineering Technology, while also playing for the Lady Wildcats\u2019 soccer team. Juggling her academics, work life and athletics schedule yielded several important skills.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1787\" src=\"https:\/\/webapp.sunypoly.edu\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/DSC09368-1024x683.jpeg\" alt=\"Stephanie Wurz taking a phone call. Her first class was pre-calculus and she said it did not seem to challenge her abilities. So, after meeting with her academic advisor, engineering was a primary major that focused on problem solving skills, so she chose to give it a try. Ultimately, it was the perfect fit, equipping her with the tools needed to succeed in the workforce.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Overall, Wurz, who has returned to SUNY Poly to pursue a Bachelor\u2019s in Psychology, speaks fondly of the atmosphere her alma mater provides.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1788\" src=\"https:\/\/webapp.sunypoly.edu\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/DSC01755-1024x683.jpeg\" alt=\"Stephanie at a job site looking over the work being completed.\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" srcset=\"https:\/\/webapp.sunypoly.edu\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/DSC01755-1024x683.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/webapp.sunypoly.edu\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/DSC01755-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/webapp.sunypoly.edu\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/DSC01755-768x512.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/webapp.sunypoly.edu\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/DSC01755.jpeg 1152w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>\u201cSUNY Poly is a local, affordable, and engaging atmosphere that allows students of all backgrounds to explore their interests while fulfilling the credits to receive a degree,\u201d said Wurz. \u201cBeing a Wildcat, there is a family dynamic among athletes and many clubs to encourage engagement regardless of your interest.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Wurz adds that by supporting a local university like SUNY Poly, \u201cwe increase the likelihood of keeping students where their roots have been established and create a foundation that nurtures their passions, which ultimately serves as the basis of our future here in Oneida County, from a professional and community standpoint.\u201d<\/p>\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you take a drive around Utica and spot one of the city\u2019s many revitalization efforts, there\u2019s a good chance Utica native Stephanie Wurz \u201914 had a hand in making it come to fruition.
