SUNY Poly Wins NEAC Championship, NCAA Tournament

NEAC WinThe SUNY Poly women’s basketball team are the North Eastern Athletic Conference Champions for the second time in as many years.

The Wildcats won the February 26 Championship game in convincing fashion, defeating Morrisville State 74-47. The Championship Title earns the Wildcats the right to represent the NEAC in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.

The Wildcats played a great game right from the tip, never surrendering the lead. The Wildcats shot 45 percent from the field and hit nine three-pointers in the win. The team played incredibly hard on defense, forcing 21 turnovers. Those 21 turnovers turned into 26 points from the Wildcats. The Cats’ also hit the offensive boards hard in the game, turning 12 offensive rebounds into 16 second chance points.

The SUNY Poly women’s basketball team then moved on to the second round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament after an 80-72 win over the Eastern Connecticut State Warriors. The Wildcats win is the first NCAA Tournament win for any women’s program in the history of SUNY Poly Athletics.

The Wildcats played a great game on both sides of the ball. The team shot 48 percent from the field and forced 26 turnovers by the Warriors leading to 18 points by the Wildcats. The only statistical category Eastern Connecticut had an advantage in the game was on the glass where the bigger Warrior front court grabbed 50 rebounds to the Wildcats 35.
