Participate in Relay for Life at SUNY Poly
The American Cancer Society and the SUNY Poly Chapter of Colleges Against Cancer are calling on the members of the campus community to participate in the annual Relay For Life of SUNY Poly on Friday, March 31st at the Wildcat Fieldhouse. The Relay For Life movement is the world’s largest fundraising event to save lives from cancer. Uniting communities across the globe, the event celebrates people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action for lifesaving change.
Last year, the first-ever Relay for Life event at SUNY Poly’s Utica campus was held, raising more than $19,000 for cancer research.
During Relay For Life events, members of each team take turns walking or running around the track or path. Teams participate in fundraising in the weeks leading up to the event. Relay For Life brings the community embracing their collective power to free the world from the pain and suffering of cancer.
“Every passionate step taken demonstrates courage and strength,” said Tucker Mogren, Student Chair for the Relay For Life of SUNY Poly. “Together, we are bigger than cancer, and funds raised by campus teams help the American Cancer Society bring cancer to its knees.”
Funds raised help the American Cancer Society provide free information and support for people facing the disease today, and fund cancer research that will help protect future generations.
“Even if someone isn’t able to participate in the event, they can still support the event with a donation,” said Robert Elinskas, American Cancer Society staff partner for the Relay For Life of SUNY Poly, “They can purchase a luminaria in honor or in memory of someone who has battled cancer, which we will put out on the track the night of the event or they can just make a donation in support of one of the teams through the event website. Every dollar helps!”
Teams and individuals can learn more and sign up for the Relay For Life event by visiting RelayForLife.org/SUNYPolyNY or call at 1.800.227.2345.
