Of the crowds of people who made their way throughout the college campus and the myriad of manufacturers and fellow academic institutions with exhibits, displays, and interactive booths in the Field House, 1,200 of them were middle and high school students hailing from more than two dozen different schools.

“Students, veterans, and all those in attendance to our 2016 Manufacturing Day Expo, took full advantage of the chance to learn about new, high tech processes and materials, watch a presentation about silicon production, tour our campus, play with welding simulators, won prizes, and watch robots and drones in action,” said Kathleen Alcott, Continuing Professional Education Program Coordinator at SUNY Poly and Expo Organizer.

Tours of SUNY Poly’s Utica campus, as well as information on technical education programs offered by P-Techs (Pathways in Technology Early College High School), community, and four-year colleges were available to all attendees. Recently ranked #10 by U.S. News and World Report among Best Colleges for Veterans in Regional Universities (North), SUNY Poly placed extra emphasis at this year’s Expo on opportunities for Veterans.

“We have a lot of students that are veterans, and we want to show them an extra opportunity to connect with these employers, and we also know that employers really value some of the skills that veterans come out of the military with,” Jerry Gretzinger, Vice President of Strategic Communications and Public Relations for SUNY Poly told WKTV.
