Riding with Walter

Students can tweet @poly_campuslife with the hashtag #walterpickmeup with their pick-up location for a ride to their next on-campus destination, every Wednesday during the Fall 2016 semester, weather permitting.

Some students walk to class. Others take a skateboard. Or maybe a scooter.

And then there are some that prefer to be driven to class by a big, furry chauffeur by the name of Walter. Walter the Wildcat, that is.

If you got offered a ride to class by the big blue mascot, not to worry – he hasn’t had too much catnip. No, he’s just lending a helping hand…er paw…to kick off the Fall 2016 semester in style. Wildcat style.

Sponsored by Poly PAWS: The President’s Programming Initiative, the idea came about during a group meeting on new ways to increase SUNY Poly spirit.

“We thought, what better way to promote school pride than roll around with Walter and offer free rides to class?” explained Alyssa Napolitano, Student Activities Coordinator at SUNY Poly.“When students, faculty, and staff enter the Catmobile (as it is affectionately known), they have the opportunity to win a one-of-a-kind SUNY Poly yowie, or rally band — all they have to do is answer a trivia question correctly. If they answer incorrectly, they can make their choice of candy. Whether they’re trivia royalty or not, they still get a free ride to their next destination!”

The first Wildcat Wednesday took place August 31 and continues every Wednesday from 10 am – Noon during the fall semester, with the only exception being a heavy snowfall.
