On June 15, staff and volunteers from SUNY Poly Utica’s K-12 Outreach Program visited Hughes Elementary School in Utica to work with teachers and students in STEM / Nano instruction.

Sessions were held in 10 different K-6 classrooms and impacted approximately 200 students. This initiative is a result of several years of grant funding from the Utica City Schools targeted at increasing the capability of teachers to teach STEM topics.
Staff and volunteers included Jacqueline Keida, Amber Bay, Tina Betz and Art Tooker.
Activities included circuits, static electricity and polymers. Each teacher received a Nano in a Box kit so that they could continue instruction in the future. The kits were provided by Kate Alcott, Associate Director of SUNY Poly’s Northeast Advanced Technological Education Center, NEATEC.
