Michael Reale, assistant professor of computer science, attended the ABET Fundamentals of Program Assessment workshop on April 15-16, 2016 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

Zora Thomova, interim dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, participated in Abecedarian of SIDE, as well as attended the Symmetries and Integrability of Difference Equations Conference (SIDE 12) as one of its organizers and participants. The conferences were held in Quebec, Canada, June 26 – July 10, 2016.

Firas Khasawneh, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, will gave a presentation titled, “A Pilot Study on Using the Flipped Classroom model for Engineering Mechanics-Statics,” at the CIT 2016 conference at SUNY Potsdam, May 30-June 3, 2016.

Firas Khasawneh, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, will attend the IDETC/CIE 2016 conference as a co-organizer for the symposium on time delay systems being held in Charlotte, NC, August 20-24, 2016.

James Lloyd, senior research scientist and professor at SUNY Poly CNSE, attended the 14th International Stress Induced Phenomena in Bad Schandau, Germany, presenting a paper on the modeling of failure physics in semiconductor devices, May 30-June 1, 2016.

V.K. Kool, professor of psychology, was invited by Associate Director Dr. Todd Davies, of Peace + Justice Studies program at Stanford University, to speak at a conference at Stanford University, May 6-8, 2016.

V.K. Kool, professor of psychology, was invited to contribute a chapter to the forthcoming book, “Global Psychologies.”

Kathryn Stam, associate professor of anthropology, presented a paper, “The Information Landscape of Bhutanese-Nepali Refugees in the U.S.: A case study of multicultural Utica, NY,” at the Himalayan Studies Conference in Austin, Texas, Feb 25-28, 2016.

Kathryn Stam, associate professor of anthropology, and Judy Wolf, SBDC government contracting coordinator, participated in the spring cohort of Thincubator, a business incubator in downtown Utica that provides people, programs, and place to accelerate the ideas of entrepreneurs. They are developing a not-for-profit project called, “International Artists of Utica.”

Rafael Romero, associate professor in the College of Health Sciences and Management, presented his paper “Non-State Actors in Non-international Armed Conflict: The Case of Venezeulas Colectivos and the Challenge of Accountability” at the 2016 Costa Rica Global Conference on Business and Finance May 24-27, 2016 in San Jose, Costa Rica.

Daniel Jones, associate professor of mechanical engineering technology, and chair of the engineering technology department, attended and presented his paper “Successful Use of Performance Indicators to Assess Student Outcomes” at the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Annual Conference & Exposition June 25-30, 2016 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Marie-Odile Richard, assistant professor of marketing, attended and presented her paper “English versus Chinese Bilinguals’ Preference for Vocabulary in Advertising” at the Academy of Marketing Science Annual Conference May 18-21, 2016 in Orlando, Florida.

Marie-Odile Richard, assistant professor of marketing, attended and presented her papers “Fear appeals in magazine advertising: A comparison of Chinese, French, and U.S. magazine advertisements” and “How TV programs alter consumers’ purchase intentions of counterfeit luxury brands: A study on program-induced moods” at the Royal Bank International Research Conference June 24-26, 2016 in Wuxi, China.

Brendan Mahoney, lecturer for the College of Arts & Sciences, will serve as a respondent/commentator on two conference papers presented at the 50th Annual Meeting of the Heidegger Circle September 15-18, 2016 at DePaul University.
