Urban named Professor of the Year

Christopher Urban - SUNY PolyThe students of SUNY Polytechnic Institute have spoken – and named Christopher Urban as Professor of the Year.

Urban is Chair of the Department of Computer and Information Sciences as well as Lecturer of Computer and Information Science/Computer Information Systems.

“Congratulations to SUNY Poly Professor Christopher Urban, who was recognized by SUNY Poly students as this year’s ‘Professor of the Year.’ He was selected by popular vote for the annual honor because of his dedication to student learning both inside and outside the classroom and for his ability to provide an exciting and engaging educational atmosphere that ensures his students have all the opportunities to succeed,” said SUNY Polytechnic Institute President and CEO Dr. Alain Kaloyeros. “As the Department Chair and Computer and Information Science/Computer Information Systems Lecturer, Christopher’s enthusiasm for teaching has made an indelible impression on countless students, and the SUNY Poly community applauds his recognition as ‘Professor of the Year.’”

Urban’s primary focus is the practical application of computer information systems (CIS) technology to satisfy real-world requirements.  He holds an M.S. in Information Systems and an M.A. in National Security and Strategic Studies.

He is a retired career Naval Officer with significant leadership, management, and project management experience, and he has served as a chief information officer (CIO). He has taught at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD and the United States Naval War College in Newport, RI.
