Faculty member receives one of two SUNY Russian travel awards

Steven M. Schneider, professor of political science at SUNYIT, has received a spring travel award from the State University of New York Russian Programs Network.

Steven SchneiderAs one of two award recipients this semester, Schneider will travel independently to St. Petersburg, Russia, to provide approximately one week of lectures and pro-seminars at St. Petersburg State University and other secondary institutions.

A member of the SUNYIT faculty since 1991, Schneider’s research has focused on Internet studies, Web archiving and, recently, an exploration of hypertextuality. In Russia, he will be offering lectures that intersect with interdisciplinary topics in cultural studies, media/film studies, and history and political science. Schneider earned a Ph.D. in political science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a master of arts in communications from the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg School of Communications, and a bachelor of arts in communications from George Washington University.

SUNY works with major universities in Russia to expand and deepen opportunities there for SUNY students and faculty, and within SUNY for Russian students and faculty. With a presence in two Russian cities, Moscow and St. Petersburg, SUNY encourages the development of exchanges, online collaboration, conferences, and to enable SUNY and Russian scholars to pursue collaborative research and share the results of their individual and collaborative work in jointly sponsored conferences.
