Faculty member among Mohawk Valley’s outstanding women

Kathryn Stam, associate professor of anthropology, will be one of eight honorees at the YWCA of the Mohawk Valley’s 26th anniversary Salute to Outstanding Women event April 3 at Hart’s Hill Inn, Whitesboro.

A Fulbright Scholar, Stam teaches courses in anthropology, sociology, cultural diversity, and the social and ethical aspects of information technology. Her qualitative research on information technology and other topics has been published in numerous academic journals and she is the co-author of The Visible Employee: Using Workplace Monitoring and Surveillance to Protect Information Assets—Without Compromising Employee Privacy or Trust. Stam holds a Ph.D. in social science from Syracuse University.

The annual event recognizes the exceptional contributions and achievements of women who live and work in Herkimer and Oneida counties. Organizers invite community nominations of women, and a panel of judges selects honorees in eight categories: Arts & Communications, Business & Industry, Education, Health Care, Human & Public Services, Professions, Racial Justice, and Unsung Heroine.
