Acting President Geer takes on economic development role
Acting President Robert Geer, in his new role as co-chair of the Mohawk Valley Regional Economic Development Council, took part in the Council’s December 3 presentation to the REDC’s Strategic Implementation Assessment Team. The event, part of the team’s tour of Mohawk Valley sites receiving REDC funding, took place at St. Mary’s Health Center in Amsterdam. Geer, who was appointed to the leadership post in November, and co-chair Lawrence T. Gilroy III said the presentation was an opportunity for the Council to demonstrate the progress that’s been made over the past two years.
“The resources awarded to the Mohawk Valley region have been put to good use – supporting economic development projects that are leading to new jobs and transformational change in our region,” Geer and Gilroy said in a statement issued after the event. “After the first two years of this initiative, it is clear that the investments we have guided and collaborative efforts of the Council have spurred economic growth in our region.”
The team visit took place as part of the third round of the Regional Council competition for priority project funding. The Mohawk Valley Council’s progress report and full list of endorsed priority projects for 2013 can be found at http://regionalcouncils.ny.gov/content/mohawk-valley.
