Faculty activities

November 2013

Mathematics faculty members Andrea Dziubek, assistant professor; Edmond Rusjan, associate professor; and William Thistleton, associate professor participated in the following:

5th Annual SUNY Eye Institute Workshop, October 19-20, Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, N.Y., and the ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) 2013 Frontiers in Medical Devices conference; poster: “Challenges in Blood Flow Simulation: Numerical Methods and Image Processing Tools,” September 12, Washington. D.C.

Dziubek and Rusjan presented “Modeling Oxygen Dynamics of the Retina – Using Discrete Exterior Calculus” at the AMMCS – Applied Mathematics, Modeling and Computational Science conference, August 28, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada; and “A Discrete Exterior Calculus Model of Blood Flow in the Retina” at the 8th Conference on Applied Mathematics and Scientific Computing, June 12, Sibenik, Croatia.

Dziubek presented “Effect of ocular curvature and myopia on retinal blood flow: a theoretical study” at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, May 6, Seattle, Wash.

Narayan Sharma, assistant professor of organic chemistry/biochemistry, co-authored “Preexistent Asymmetry in the Human Cyclooxygenase-2 sequence Homodimer,” which was published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry, jbc.org.
