Events draw hundreds to campus

November 2013

Fall is a busy time on campus, and in recent weeks hundreds of people—student athletes, prospective students, parents and the general public—have come to see what SUNYIT is all about.

Open house crowd in bleachers

About 500 prospective students and parents attended open house on October 26.

On October 26, at the annual open house, the Wildcat Field House was the arrival point for hundreds of prospective students and their family members. Acting President Robert Geer welcomed attendees to campus; and faculty, staff and student volunteers fielded questions at exhibit tables featuring academic program and campus life information. The field house session was followed by academic program sessions, campus tours and presentations at the Quad-C construction site.

“As you can see, SUNYIT is an institution on the move—exciting developments in our academic offerings and the development of industry partnerships make this an attractive college choice,” Jennifer Ninh, director of admissions, told prospective students and parents.

Many of the 500 people who attended Community Day stopped by the admissions display to talk with staff.

The following Saturday, November 2, a first-ever “CNSE-SUNYIT Quad-C Community Day” offered the public a first-hand look at construction progress on the $125 million project, and hundreds of people turned out for the event.  In support of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s innovation blueprint for educational excellence and economic development, Community Day was part of NANOvember: the SUNY College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE)’s sixth annual month-long celebration showcasing the exciting world of nanotechnology and the global leadership of CNSE and NYS in the most important science of the 21st century.
