Gallery exhibit: “Born Free and Equal” October 7-21

The Gannett Gallery this month features “Born Free and Equal,” as part of UNSPOKEN—Utica’s annual human rights forum that combines film, art, music, and a conference into one festival.

UNSPOKEN gallery showThe gallery exhibit features artwork from Karen-Burmese artist and Proctor High School student Abya Htoo, charcoal drawings and paintings done by refugee clients of the Mohawk Valley Resource Center for Refugees and PrattMWP art students, refugee musician and dancer photos taken by SUNYIT staff member Lynne Browne, portraits of refugees taken by the Photo Club of CNY as part of the nation-wide Help Portraits project, and Fulbright scholar Portia Watson’s portraits taken in a Northern Thai refugee camp.

The exhibit is on display October 7- 21, with a gallery reception on October 16, 4:30-7:00 p.m., As part of the reception, the Bhutanese-Nepali Folk Collective will perform in the Student Center, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public. Admission to the performance is $5 for non-SUNYIT attendees.
