Flex Spending open enrollment

The Flex Spending Account is a free and easy-to-use State employee benefit that saves you money by allowing you to pay for certain expenses with pre-tax dollars. Under this program, you can choose either the Health Care Spending Account (HCSAccount) which allows you to set aside any amount from $100 up to $2,500 annually to pay for health care expenses that are not reimbursed by your health insurance or other benefit plan, or the Dependent Care Advantage Account (DCAAccount) which allows you to set aside up to $5,000 in pre-tax salary for eligible child care, elder care, or disabled dependent care expenses that are necessary for you and your spouse, if you are married, to work.

The 2014 Open Enrollment Period for a Flex Spending Account is until November 8, 2013. Participants who are currently enrolled must re-enroll if they wish to continue their benefits in 2014 and they will receive re-enrollment instructions directly from Fringe Benefits Management Company, the Plan Administrator for the Flex Spending Account. If you wish to take advantage of this benefit, you must register online at www.flexspend.ny.gov or by calling the FSA Hotline, 1-800-358-7202.

Please be advised the deadline for 2014 enrollment is November 8, 2013, and is strictly enforced.

BJ’s Membership
Applications are available in the Office of Human Resources for NEW and RENEWING BJ’s Wholesale Club Memberships. This Inner Circle Corporate Membership is available to our employees and includes a $10 savings off the $50 annual membership, a free second card for a household member and three free months. The cost of the 15-month membership, for two-household cards, is $43.50. BJ’s sends out renewal notices approximately 1 month before expiration date.

To apply for membership (both new and renewing), you must complete the application and mail the application and payment to our BJ’s representative (HR will provide pre-addressed envelope). Please DO NOT bring application/payment to club location, it must be mailed.
New Members- It may take up to four weeks to receive your membership letter in the mail. Once you have this number, you will need to stop by any BJ’s Wholesale Club for your card. A temporary membership card is on the back page of the application but this temporary membership card does not work at the gas pump.

Renewing Members- You will not receive a new membership card. Your membership will be extended with the new expiration date. If your membership expires before the extension is applied, just use the temporary pass on the back of the application until your card has been updated (please be aware that this temporary membership card will not work at the gas pump).

Defensive Driving

The Office of Human Resources is now accepting registrations for the National Safety Council/Defensive Driving Course being offered on November 5, 2013, 830 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Employees must obtain their supervisor’s permission prior to registration to ensure there is proper coverage in their department. To register for class, bring your payment to Human Resources (Kunsela Hall – A011) as soon as possible; the deadline is October 29. Make checks payable to The College Association.

The cost is $20 for SUNYIT faculty, staff and students–this includes State, Research Foundation and College Association employees, retirees and students and alumni–and $30 for non-employees.

One short class = long time savings!
By simply taking the NSC’s six-hour class, you will save money for three full years. Receive up to a 10% discount on your vehicle collision and liability insurance premiums each year for three years. This discount applies to the base rate of your automobile and motorcycle insurance premiums providing you are listed as the principal operator.

One short class = point reduction!
The same six-hour class may allow you to receive up to a four (4) point reduction on your driving record with the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles. (May be taken once every 18 months for point reduction.)

One short class = a life saved!
The best benefit you can receive from our six-hour defensive driving course is a safer, smarter way of driving. Taking this course is priceless and can help save lives.
