Getting ready for fall semester

Faculty, staff and students—new and returning—are getting ready for the beginning of a new academic year. In addition to their seasonal work to make the campus buildings and grounds look their best, facilities staff (including Mike Durr, below) installed several new campus banners in recent weeks, in support of the student recruitment slogan “SUNYIT, New York’s Public Polytechnic.” Here’s a sample of upcoming events and activities:

Campus banner installation* The summer program for Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) students began August 14 and continues through August 22.

* New transfer and graduate student orientation will be held Friday, August 16, in the Student Center. The program, for new degree transfer and graduate students starting classes in the fall 2013 semester, begins at 8:30 a.m. and will include meetings with faculty, academic advisement and registration.

* Faculty information sessions are scheduled August 21, academic department meetings August 22.

*Faculty and staff will hear from Robert E. Geer, acting president, at the annual “all campus meeting” on August 21, 2-3 p.m., in the Student Center multipurpose room. A “meet-and-greet” reception will follow in the Student Center pub.

* Incoming freshmen—members of the Class of 2017—and their parents will be getting to know SUNYIT better during orientation August 22-25. A record number of freshmen are expected to attend SUNYIT this fall.

* Classes start Monday, August 26.

* Convocation will be held on Thursday, August 29, and will feature an address by Christopher L. Nyberg, Dean of the School of Agriculture, Sustainability, Business and Entrepreneurship at Morrisville State College.
