Co-workers, family friends honor Mollie Wertheim

Mollie Wertheim was already retired when she started work at SUNYIT’s former campus during the college’s “mills era” more than 30 years ago. On May 6, her friends, co-workers and family celebrated her 100th birthday with a party in Student Center multipurpose room.  Area media, including WKTV-TV, WUTR-TV and WIBX radio, interviewed Mollie and other participants.

Mollie WertheimThrough a local community program for retirees, Wertheim was hired as a clerical aide in the admissions office on April 29, 1976. She has become a familiar face in the admissions office for prospective students and parents, current students, staff, and faculty.

“Mollie’s story is one of perseverance and dedication,” said Wolf Yeigh, president of SUNYIT. “Her hard work and commitment have served our students well for decades, and she is an example for all of us.”

Five years ago, SUNYIT established the Mollie Wertheim Award for Outstanding Recruitment. It’s presented annually to a member of the faculty or staff whose work has made a significant contribution to SUNYIT’s student recruitment efforts.
