International safety, security conference here May 16-17

April 2013

SUNYIT will host an international conference May 16-17  in partnership with the University of Security Management (VŠBM) in Košice, Slovakia, and Tomas Bata University (TBU) in Zlín, Czech Republic. “Safety and Security in the Global Age” will explore a broad range of safety and security issues and topics, including Information Safety and Security, Infrastructure Safety and Security, and Health Care Safety and Security. Officials will also discuss planned joint teaching and research opportunities at the three institutions under the terms of collaborative agreements SUNYIT has signed with VŠBM and TBU.

TBU emphasizes providing essential skills its graduates need to develop successful careers in an international environment. Established as a bilingual institution at which English and Czech are of equal importance, TBU offers its students opportunities to spend a part of their studies at partner universities all over the world. It has internationally recognized research outcomes particularly in polymer engineering, automation and control of technological processes, and chemistry. The university offers a variety of programs through each of its six faculties: Technology, Management and Economics, Multimedia Communications, Applied Informatics, Humanities, and Logistics and Crisis Management.

VŠBM has developed a “safety and security management” specialization unique among institutions of higher education in Slovakia and Europe, with a particular focus on transportation safety, and security education and research. In addition to its emphasis on civic, economic and information security, VŠBM offers programs in security management, protection of corporate economic interests, safety in transportation and logistical processes, information protection, crime prevention, and management of environmental risks.
