Sociology lecture to examine race in juvenile justice

SUNYIT will present the 17th annual Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD) lecture on March 28 in Donovan Hall, Rm. G152. Anne Hobbs, director of the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Juvenile Justice Institute, will address “Improving Racial Fairness in our Juvenile Court System through Applied Sociology.” The lecture will begin at 12:45 p.m.

Hobbs holds a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she is the Director of the Juvenile Justice Institute. Her research interests include implicit bias, inequality in justice systems, disproportionate minority contact, and program evaluation. She has conducted a number of mixed methodological studies on the topic of racial and ethnic inequality in the juvenile justice system. She also holds a J.D. from the University of Nebraska College of Law and a B.A. from the University of San Francisco.

AKD is the international sociology honor society; undergraduate membership is open to sociology majors or students who demonstrate a serious interest in sociology. SUNYIT offers an undergraduate program in sociology.
