National Safety Council/Defensive Driving Course
April 4 • 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
The Office of Human Resources is accepting registrations for the upcoming National Safety Council’s Defensive Driving Course.

Employees must obtain their supervisor’s permission prior to registration to ensure there is proper coverage in their department.  To register, bring your payment to Human Resources, Kunsela Hall Rm. A011, one week prior to class. Make checks payable to The College Association.

The cost is $20 for SUNYIT faculty, staff and students (including State, Research Foundation & College Association employees, retirees and students/alumni) and $30 for non-employees.

One short class = long time savings!
By simply taking the NSC’s six-hour class, you will save money for three full years.  Receive up to a 10% discount on your vehicle collision and liability insurance premiums each year for three years.  This discount applies to the base rate of your automobile and motorcycle insurance premiums providing you are listed as the principal operator.

One short class = point reduction!
The same six-hour class may allow you to receive up to a four (4) point reduction on your driving record with the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles. (May be taken once every 18 months for point reduction.)

BJ’s Membership
Applications are available in the Office of Human Resources for NEW and RENEWING BJ’s Wholesale Club Memberships.

This Inner Circle Corporate Membership is available to our employees and includes a $10 savings off the $50 annual membership, a free second card for a household member and three free months.  The cost of the 15-month membership, for two-household cards, is $43.50.  (BJ’s sends out renewal notices approx. 1 month before expiration date)

To apply for membership (both new and renewing), you must complete the application and mail the application and payment to our BJ’s representative (HR will provide pre-addressed envelope).  Please DO NOT bring application/payment to club location, it must be mailed.

Please note: It may take up to four weeks to receive your membership letter in the mail. Once you have this number, you will need to stop by any BJ’s Wholesale Club for your card. A temporary membership card is on the back page of the application but this temporary membership card does not work at the gas pump.

 

SUNYIT Online Directory
The SUNYIT website has a link to an on-line directory for both staff and students. This directory lists such information as office/room locations, telephone numbers, and email addresses, etc. Staff has the ability to update their information in this online campus directory any time a change is necessary.  Here are some basic directions to do this:

1)   Go to www.sunyit.edu
2)   At the top right of the page, click on “Directory/Search Tools”
3)   On the left side, click on “Tools, Update your Bio”
4)   You will need to log in (same login that is used to access your SUNYIT email)

NYS-Balance Monthly
WEBINARS: An online learning resource for you

To make learning less complicated, NYS-Balance provides online training through the monthly webinar series. Sessions cover a range of practical work and life topics.

Register in advance or view later online for any webinar that you plan to attend, be sure to register in advance on the NYS-Balance website. To participate, you will need an Internet-connected PC and a phone. If the webinar is not scheduled during your break or lunch time, you can view it later online at your convenience.

NYS-Balance is a resource and referral program offered by Work-Life Services with funding provided by the negotiated agreements between the State and CSEA, PEF, UUP, DC-37, NYSCOPBA, GSEU, and Council 82, and by the Governor’s Office of Employee Relations for employees designated M/C.

2012 Flex Spending Account Reimbursement
Employees who participated in Flex Spending for 2012 have until March 31, 2013 to submit claim forms.  Forms as well as mailing instructions can be obtained from the Flex Spending website at www.flexspend.ny.gov.  There are no forms available in the Office of Human Resources.

 

Empire Plan Enrollees
Employees who are enrolled in the Empire Plan are reminded that any outstanding claims for 2012, with non-participating providers, must be submitted by March 31, 2013.  Claim forms, with appropriate bills attached, should be sent to United HealthCare, PO Box 1600, Kingston, NY  12402-1600.  Claim forms are available in the Office of Human Resources.

 

Reminder – Leave for Breast & Prostrate Cancer Screening
Effective November 11, 2002, Legislation amended the Civil Service Law to entitle employees to take up to four hours of paid leave annually for screening for breast cancer.  In addition, effective October 25, 2004, Legislation amended the Civil Service law to entitle employees to take up to four hours annually for prostate cancer screening. The entire period of the leave of absence granted pursuant to this section shall be excused leave and shall not be charged against any other leave the employee is otherwise entitled to.

 

Social Security
The Social Security Tax for 2013 will be calculated at 6.2% on the first $113,700 taxable wages for employers and 6.2% for employees.  This will result in a maximum employee deduction of $7049.40 for the year.  The Medicare Tax will remain at 1.45% without a limit on the taxable wages.
