Campus raises money for breast cancer research

November 2012

Students, staff, faculty and alumni helped raise awareness and more than $3,800 for charities during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

Almost 200 people—many of them members of student groups and athletics teams—took part in a “Making Strides” walk on campus October 19 in advance of the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer community walk in Utica on October 21. The SUNYIT event was sponsored by the campus wellness committee, alumni association and student activities.

Members of the SUNYIT women’s volleyball team conducted their 3rd annual Dig Pink night October 10, with proceeds going to benefit the Side Out Foundation, an organization that supports Breast Cancer Research and Awareness. The women’s soccer team held their “pink” game on October 6, and the men’s soccer team wore pink jerseys for their home match against Cazenovia on October 20.
